Hello, Lovely Readers.
I’m sorry I’ve been so lax about posting. To be honest, Facebook may kill my blog. I have gotten lazy by just posting mini-updates there instead of detailed updates here. Sorry! I don’t promise things will get better, but I thought I would give a little update now.
I’m home with EllaBoop tonight and Mike is currently on a train heading home from NYC. The Boopadoop only took a 20 minute nap all day, but she had a 30 minute nap in the car and ate a great dinner. I’m watching her suck on a cracker and we’ll head upstairs for a bath soon.
For those who don’t know, we moved into our new house just before Thanksgiving, and we’ve been going non-stop ever since. We’ve had some housing adventures (leak in the roof, empty oil tank for heat, blown fuses, broken door locks) and we’ve started some renovating (removed wall paper and refinishing walls), but we still have lots to do. We’re getting the floors refinished next week and I’m really excited to see how it looks all new and shiny. Then we finish our painting (I know, some would do that in the opposite way, but we don’t want to rush our painting). Our new furniture will start arriving in February through March. Lots of goodies are on their way! Woohoo!
So, by the end of March, we will be basically finished! Well, is a home owner ever really finished? And we haven’t bought everything we possibly could. No bedroom furniture yet and lots of room for accent pieces and little things as time goes on. But we can actually have guests over soon!
I am still shocked that everything has come together so well. Hosting Christmas dinner went great, despite no real dining furniture. We’ve been lucky with some good deals on furniture. Even the “problems” have been straightforward to fix.
In all this, Eleanor has been getting bigger and cuter. She’s a master-crawler and she is such a talker! I mean, she’s not saying understandable words to us, but nonetheless, it is obvious that they are words to her! She got her second bottom tooth a few weeks after the first one, but that was almost two months ago, and no teeth since! She has been very fussy recently, though; waking up a lot at night and not wanting to eat. So I think those top ones are finally coming in. Or we’ve undergone an unfortunate personality change.
She discovered echoes yesterday. We cleared out Mike’s office to expose all the floors for the refinishing next week and now there is quite the echo. She sat in the doorway hooting for awhile. Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!
She sometimes sleeps all the way through the night, and other times she gets up a lot. Usually, she gets up at around 3:30 or 4 to nurse and get a little bottle and then sleeps until 7:30 or 8. I love the weekend when we don’t have to wake her up and she gets up on her own. We go in to check on her, and she’s just standing in her crib, looking around at the world with the biggest smile once she sees us. Melts my heart. She usually goes right to bed around 7:30 with little to no fuss. She’s often already asleep when I lay her down, but tonight she was still awake. She just lay right down, looked around a little with big blinking eyes, snuggled into her blanket and started to drift off on her own. She is such a good baby. I’m not sure how we’ll manage another one if (s)he isn’t this good! (in the spirit of full disclosure, Ella does occasionally cry for 15 minutes instead of going to bed, and when she makes noises like ma-ma-ma-ma while crying, it kills me inside!)
Ok, enough writing. This is why I don’t write often, I get too wordy! Eleanor is in bed now and Mike is home. We’re surfing on different computers on opposite ends of the couch. We actually did have a conversation over dinner though, so we’re not completely anti-social.
I’m not likely to post many pics here anymore, so if you want pics, join Facebook and become my (and Mike’s) friend. You don’t have to join any groups or download any applications or anything you don’t want to do. But you do get little daily updates from us and the occasional picture and video.
